Connecting your own web address

How to use an address like yourbusiness.com for your RentalHalo website.

A web address, also called a domain, is what people type to reach your website. For example: yourbusiness.com

RentalHalo already gives you a working web address, and your website works perfectly well on it. Connecting your own address is optional.

If you do not have your own address yet

You do not need one to start. Go live on the address RentalHalo gave you, take bookings, and add your own address later. Nothing is lost by waiting.

If you already have one

You can point it at your RentalHalo website. Your customers then see your own address, and your old website address keeps working for your customers who already know it.

How connecting works

A web address is managed by the company you bought it from. To use it for your RentalHalo website, that company needs to be told where to send visitors. Here is the whole process:

  1. Find out where your address is managed. This is the company you bought it from, or pay for it every year, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Hostinger or Niagahoster. Check your email for a receipt if you are not sure.
  2. Add your address in RentalHalo, under Website → Domain.
  3. RentalHalo checks where the address is managed and whether a website is already using it.
  4. If you already have a website, you can keep it and use a booking address such as book.yourbusiness.com.
  5. RentalHalo shows you the exact setting to add. Copy it, or ask RentalHalo for help.
  6. Sign in to the company that manages your address and enter those settings there. RentalHalo tells you which screen to look for.
  7. Come back to RentalHalo. It checks the address for you. This can take a few minutes, and sometimes a few hours.
  8. When the check passes, RentalHalo sets up the security certificate, so your address shows the padlock and works as https.
  9. Your RentalHalo website is then live at your own address.

Connecting an address does not publish your website. If your website is not live yet, publish it as well. See Make your website live.

Two different companies

Sometimes the company you bought the address from is not the company that manages it now. RentalHalo checks this for you and points you at the right one, so you do not spend an hour on a screen whose settings are ignored.

How long it takes

Usually minutes. Occasionally a few hours, because the change has to spread across the internet. This is normal and there is nothing to fix while you wait. Your RentalHalo address keeps working the whole time.

If it is not working

Check the status on Website → Domain: it tells you whether RentalHalo is still waiting, or whether a setting does not match. See also Troubleshooting.
